Plate 18 from Bairei's Hundred Birds album presents a single bird in arrested stillness — the composition pared to the essentials of form, posture and negative space. Bairei's brushwork reads as both clinical and tender: a precise silhouette against an open ground, every feather implied rather than stated. The palette is cool and restrained, drawing on the Meiji-era kacho-e tradition where silence between marks carries as much weight as the marks themselves.

This fine art print is produced in our Berlin studio using archival pigment inks on museum-grade paper, preserving the delicate linework and tonal nuance of the original. The matte surface renders Bairei's subtle ink gradations with exceptional clarity.
