Floating earns its name through composition rather than subject — geometric forms in a muted, harmonious palette are arranged so that they seem weightless, suspended against the picture plane without anchoring to any edge or ground. Ellen Greup achieves this effect through a careful calibration of shape, colour, and negative space: nothing is superfluous, and the breathing room between elements is as deliberate as the elements themselves. The mood is one of quiet suspension, a moment of stillness given visual form in soft, considered strokes.
