Sōshū hakone kosui by Katsushika Hokusai

The Lake at Hakone in Sagami Province is another of Hokusai's Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji (c. 1830–32), showing Lake Hakone with Fuji rising beyond a stylised band of cloud (suyari gasumi) — a device Hokusai used throughout the series to separate foreground and distant peak. The still water and layered mountains give the print a calm, almost meditative register, distinct from the more dramatic wave and waterfall prints in the same series.

The tactile weave of a canvas print adds quiet depth to the composition, giving the piece a more grounded, physical presence than a flat print.
